Highlights

  • Shipped to all pages public figures, users, and framework is still currently used 5 years later.

  • Created an onboarding process for Pages offering the ability to create and join Groups for the first time.

  • Created an end-to-end flow from the empty state,to seeing a suggested group, joining a group, and then seeing the groups they've joined.

Context

Problem

Problem

Facebook hadn't let it’s Pages’s users interact with any groups related to them or their industry. Because of this, Pages had a hard time organically finding new users across the platform outside of ads.

Seeing this as a huge opportunity both for our users, pages, and the business, we ventured to create way for Pages to create, join, and interact with Groups seamlessly.

Goals

Goals

  • Craft a simple & delightful flow for Pages to see, join, and create Groups via the Groups tab.

  • Design an experience to explain to users the value of using Groups with Pages.

Process

Research & review

  • Reviewed UXR insights to understand user behavior, emotions, and needs.

  • Searched through past experimentation metrics to compare design pattern impact.

  • Discussed with team possible design iterations and their effects on KPIs.

Exploring patterns & systems

Comparing metrics

  • After comparing iterations, I had decided on the pattern would have biggest impact on our KPI (groups engagement).

  • Our final two choices were between these patterns:

    • Left - resulted in increased group engagement

    • Right - result time in increased time in Groups Tab

What about discovery?

Working closely with the teams data scientist, we constructed this suggested unit based on metadata rankings of the Pages' followers and their interactions with Groups.

Solution

Just for Pages

Optimizing for business

Optimizing for business

Let's be honest, business pages are different than regular profiles. Which means they also have different needs compared to profiles, especially when it comes to Groups.

Therefore, we crafted an experience optimized for Pages to get the best bang for their buck.

Giving pages a little help at the beginning

To prepare Facebook Pages for a new feature that would open up their ability to meet and reach new customers/followers. We decided to introduce a small banner to help onboard them onto this new experience.

An additional win

Thanks for reading through! As a token, I'll also leave this prototype of a small 3 or so day project we did at the beginning of the internship.

We were tasked to come up with something new on facebook and this is what designed, Fundraising in Groups.

Funny enough, this actually had been shipped later on after my internship.
