THE PROBLEM
Pages are feeling a bit too left out..
Facebook currently doesn’t let it’s Pages’s users interact with any groups related to them or their industry. Because of this, Pages have a hard time organically finding new users across the platform.
Seeing this as a huge opportunity, we ventured to create way for Pages to create, join, and interact with Groups seamlessly.
How might we connect Pages with possible new followers through Groups?
THE SOLUTION
A new Groups experience just for Pages

THE solution
just for pages
Let's be honest, business pages are different than regular profiles. Which means they also have different needs compared to profiles, especially when it comes to Groups.
Therefore, we crafted an experience optimized for Pages to get the best bang for their buck.
THE Solution
Giving pages a little help at the beginning
To prepare Facebook Pages for a new feature that would open up their ability to meet and reach new customers/followers. We decided to introduce a small banner to help onboard them onto this new experience.

PROCESS
look back look forward
Considering this was a 6 week project, I had limited time to spend on research. Therefore, the general bulk of it that I'd done was on previous designs used on the Groups experience & by their team. However, I found out that we had some metrics on how all of the versions performed.
process
exploring patterns, systems, and previous versions

PROCESS
COmparing metrics
After sorting through multiple low-fidelity iterations, I had come to the conclusion that this 'Your Groups Unit' would have the biggest impact on our users experience.
Based on previous testing metrics, the list on the left had more engagement with the individual groups while the H-Scroll on the right resulted in more time on Groups Tab overall.

PROCESS
What about discovery?
No, not the discoveries us designers think. I mean discovering new Groups! Except, How do we surface that to businesses?
Well, it actually turns it out it's not that hard to figure out… if you know how to search through data science google sheets. Working closely with the teams data scientist, we constructed this suggested unit based on Meta Data ranking that is based on the Pages' followers and their interactions with Groups.
THE RESULT
learnings and takeaways
Truthfully, I learned a lot during this internship. Between moving fast, communicating early & often, and utilizing metrics to design for impact, I can't even begin. This was one of the most explosive growth spurts I've had in my design career that also set me on the path to becoming a Product Designer. An enormous thanks to my manager and team members that mentored me along the way!
You're still reading? well..
Thanks! As a token, I'll also leave this prototype of a small 3 or so day project we did at the beginning of the internship.
We were tasked to come up with something new on facebook and this is what designed, Fundraising in Groups.
Funny enough, this actually had been shipped later on after my internship.
